New Covid-19 Vaccination Record Card

Everyone will be issued a written card that confirms their vaccination that they can carry with them. It will confirm what vaccine they had and when their next dose is due. “Let’s do the simple, easy thing first. Everyone’s going to get that.”

A Department of Health and Human Services employee holds a COVID-19 vaccine record card Nov. 13, 2020, in Washington D.C. The cards will be sent out as part of vaccination kits from Operation Warp Speed, which is an effort by several U.S. government components and public partnerships to facilitate the development, manufacturing and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, therapeutics and diagnostics. Vaccination clinics will also be reporting to their state immunization registries what vaccine was given. For example, an entity could run a query if it didn’t know where a patient got the first dose.

My comments

I have been reading and hearing about these cards for a while. The cards were designed to put in your wallet. I hope they are very sturdy like a drivers license and fit easily into a standard size wallet.

Getting one flu shot can be a hassle. A 2-shot vaccine is very unusual. Vaccine cards can help. Pfizer requires a second shot after 21 days and Moderna requires it after 28 days. The vaccine will be much less effective if you don’t get the second shot. A reminder can really help. You can go to different places to get your shots. For example, a local clinic for the first shot and CVS for the second shot, where you show them your card to be sure you get your second shot of the same vaccine as the first shot. You cannot get one shot from Pfizer and the next from Moderna. All the people in the U.S. need to get the shots. Many are in rural areas with much more difficult access than in urban areas.

I can see it now: Lots of social activities for those vaccinated with cards. Or, Show me your card before I let you in my restaurant or movie theater. What about workers who come into my house for remodeling or repairs. Show me your card! Of course, will there be fake Vaccine Cards, like fake ids for kids under 18?

Excerpt from the article: The current administration is requiring states to submit personal information of people vaccinated against Covid-19 — including names, birth dates, ethnicities, and addresses, raising alarms among state officials who fear that a federal vaccine registry could be misused.
